Canteen extension building works for a Premier League football club .

Project Introduction.
Aspire Construction was approached by an existing client for building works at a Premier League football club’s first team canteen facilities.
Project Brief.
The client wanted to extend the chef preparation area of the existing first team canteen. The extension was to be installed on the flat roof of an existing building.
To complete the extension we were required to work confidentially and professionally at the high profile, sensitive site. We needed to replace cladding and install steel frames, Metsec studs and a metal deck. We were also required to complete preparation works to the roof of the existing building on top of which the new extension would be constructed.
The specified cladding was on a long lead time so early engagement of our services was required.
Development.
Before beginning construction, we erected scaffolding for safe access.
The preparation for the extension then began with the removal of the existing stone ballast, which we stored for reuse. The flat roof coverings were removed to the footprint of the new extension, after which we quickly assembled robust temporary waterproofing to protect the existing roof from poor weather conditions while the development progressed. We then removed the existing cladding to the adjacent buildings.
With the preparation complete, we connected a steel frame structure to the existing building. A Metsec system of galvanised steel stud panels was installed to provide support for insulation, exterior cladding and interior boarding. We were then able to install the external cladding boards, insulation, cladding rails and interior cladding panels.
For the roof, metal roof decking was required to support the insulating membrane, over which we installed roof coverings. We then lapped the roof coverings at roof level into the existing building.
Outcome.
The project took 10 weeks to complete.
Ensuring that the existing building remained watertight during the works was a key challenge which we were able to achieve due to our extensive experience on similar projects.
Tying all the separate design elements together required our problem-solving expertise and experience in working on a diverse range of building works. We were able to bring the project together and work cohesively throughout to meet the brief.
